Chinese authorities find excess bacteria levels in Evian mineral water

May 29, 2007, AFX Asia - BEIJING - Excess levels of bacteria have been found in Groupe Danone SA's Evian mineral water products, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China said.

It added that the bacteria count exceeds the standard set by the agency.

In 2006 the Shanghai Inspection and Quarantine Bureau also detected high levels of bacteria in Evian mineral water.

Officials at the company's China office were not immediately available for comment.
