The Ghana Water Operator and Aqua Vitens Rand Ltd will from December 1 of this year prosecute all illegal customers of the company with the help of the Ghana Police Service. The move is to improve the water situation and customer base of the Ghana water Company Ltd (GWCL).

A statement issued by Vitens Rand Ltd on behalf of the GWCL, says a new loss control team has been put in place throughout the country to check and disconnect all illegal connections and, confiscate all in line-pumps connecting directly to distribution mains and also check and rectify all other malpractices against the GWCL.

The Ghana Water Operator is therefore giving all illegal consumers a thirty day amnesty beginning Wednesday 1st November, within which all illegal consumers are expected to pay all debts without paying the expected penalty or illegal water consumed but will have to pay the minimum service connection fee to enable them become legal customers.

The statement further urged all customers using in-line pumps connected to that of the GWCL to desist from that act since it contravenes the Public Utilities (Termination of service) Regulations LI 1651.

It further asked customers to desist from dealing with front men and contractors but rather deal with the District and Commercial managers in their various districts when paying their money.
